BeyondVISIBLE is a smart imager for fresh fruit bunches (FFB) ripeness detection. Unlike the conventional visual inspection method, the proposed measurement technology is far more superior. Its quantitative assessment allows more accurate estimation of the FFB maturity level and better arrangement of the next harvesting routine. The instrument can be a handheld or portable device that can potentially be incorporated into UAV or mobile unit in the estate for crop survey and routine ripeness assessment (further discussion and corporation with MPOB are required to iron out the details for implementation). BeyondVISIBLE can serve as an ‘eye’ to the unmanned harvesting robot, providing quantitative input to the robot that can improve the efficiency of the harvesting decision and the quality of the crops (oil content). BeyondVISIBLE is equipped with a location tagging capability, so that the measurement for every tree or the measurements for a group of trees within a cluster can be geo-tagged and logged into digital map. This is useful for more efficient and effective planning in the estate operation (eg. harvesting, health condition of each tree, fertilization routine, fungicide treatment).
